Emilie Lesgourgues (b. 1991) is a film director, photographer and editor based between Paris and Mexico City.
Influenced by the music videos of the 1990s (Sofia Coppola, Spike Jonze, Anton Corbijn), she began experimenting as a teenager by editing clips to her favorite songs before having access to a camera. She then explored mini DV camcorders, early reflex cameras and film photography, developing a strong sensitivity to framing, composition and texture. This passion for analogue led her naturally to Super 8 and 16 mm, where she continues to explore the immediacy and uniqueness of film.
After several years in post-production for commercials, music videos and fiction, alongside her work as a director, she now devotes herself fully to both editing and directing, while continuing to explore photography.
This balance between moving images and still images nurtures her constant desire to create, allowing her to move fluidly between different forms and to respond more immediately to her need for visual expression.
The contrast between the rural town where she was born and the French and Mexican capitals where she lives also shapes her universe: it fuels a gaze marked by sensitivity to the margins, to places and people often left unseen. No spectacular effects, but a constant search for beauty in the unexpected, and for the hidden resonance of ordinary fragments.
At the heart of her work lies emotion and a sharp attention to what usually slips by unnoticed. She seeks to awaken awareness — of social contexts, of intimate surroundings, of presences that rarely find their place on screen. Rooted in analogue practices, her approach forges a tangible and authentic connection with the stories she tells and the people she films.
Her films, nourished by music, subcultures and personal narratives, move between softness and intensity. They express a devotion to presence, a sensitivity to fleeting moments, and a deep love for nostalgia. Through them, she transforms the simplicity of everyday life into a poetic, universal language capable of stirring sincere and lasting emotions.
